Day 26

Luke 6:37–42 (NIV)

37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

39 He also told them this parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher. 41 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Pray for God to show you something to use from the passage

Questions

What is the difference between judging others and having discernment about others?

In vs 37-38 what are the benefits of living God's way?

What are the qualifications of helping someone to grow in their faith?

How do you determine you are ready to help someone else with an issue they face in their life?

Notes

Have to remember what came before about how to treat your enemies. Jesus goes on to explain another way we are to look at our enemies

vs 37 - DO NOT PLAY THE ROLE OF GOD- only God judges and condemns one as guilty w/out another chance. Remember be merciful in vs 36. That doesn't mean not using discernment and digression is wrong, rather the attitude of destruction or condemnation of one. A person's moral character still comes into play as we choose how we relate but we must be careful not put ourselves as superior to another. Forgiveness is still offered, help is still offered when possible. Why because that is what God did for us. vs 36.

It is not about being a door mat or being run over its about being a billboard or a service for even your enemy to see God

vs 38 Great verse- how you treat others is how God treats you. Example saying if you overfill or give more than is expected then that is what God will do to you. The opposite of vs 32-33

39-42 About being a spiritual leader- applying 20 -37 to leading others by example

Humility is important Vs 42,

vs 39- not just words but who you are. Blind leading the blind if the heart is not right. It leads to disaster.

vs 40 If you have someone learning from you they are going to learn your character. (goes back to vs 36 who is the best teacher to learn from? God) This section looks forward to verses 43-45

vs 41 To be a spiritual leader must see your frailties and work on them before you start "helping " someone else with their life.

Does this mean you have to be perfect to be a spiritual leader? No means you don't pretend to be what you are not. You deal with the issues in your life, not seeing yourself as above another, Does mean to be a leader needs to be in right relationship with God. Then you can help others. It means learning to live from God's point of view not judging yourself or others from human view.
